Get to know your potential My Personal Yoga Teacher a bit better–Anna MacIntosh! Anna is a movement instructor and owner of AMalignment in Burlington, Ontario. Coming from an engineering background, Anna brings unique perspectives and experience to movement training. She is certified in Hatha and Restorative yoga (with a focus on alignment), ELDOA® Levels 1 and 2 osteo-articular stretching technique, and is completing the Restorative Exercise Specialist® program with Katy Bowman in the US (Nutritious Movement). Her style includes offering separate classes as well as creating a combined class or workshop that incorporates controlled movement for your whole body, while challenging your brain and coordination! Never being a person who loved the gym, Anna was introduced to yoga about 13 years ago, beginning a casual practice in group classes. Despite feeling ok physically, she found she struggled at times not being "flexible" enough to execute many of the poses and the cues offered didn’t seem to be helping her get any better. Following years of studying and working in the materials engineering field, in 2016 she embarked on teacher training in a couple of areas to better understand alignment and biomechanics with the goal to create a more effective practice for her own body and to work on issues that had started to creep in with age. As her body began to feel better and more functional with movement training, her desire to learn more and share it with others through teaching movement became a reality. In addition, Anna is a natural movement and barefoot health educator and enthusiast. When not teaching you will find her floor-sitting while studying anatomy or osteopathic theory, rock climbing, barefoot walking in nature, or scouting for the next fun trip with either surf or scuba on the menu. Anna teaches in: Burlington, Oakville, and Mississauga. Anna’s experiences include: Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Gentle, Chair Yoga, Accessible Yoga, Seniors, Limited Mobility, Biomechanics, Alignment, Strength Building, ELDOA, Barefoot Health and Mobility, Functional Movement, Increasing Range of Motion. ———————-- Following is a little interview with Anna! What got you into yoga? I thought I needed to gain flexibility and I didn’t like working out in a gym environment. It turns out that yoga just opened the door to learning so much more about what my body really needed from several different perspectives. Favourite thing about one of your yoga trainings: Yoga props - period. Anyone who has been in a class with me with tell you I love props. Favourite thing about teaching private sessions: Although I love the energy of classes, I really like the diversity between people and the focussed attention allowed for each unique body when teaching a private client. There is more time and opportunity to connect with a person and help them develop a practice that improves or balances their life in some way. Go to grounding practice: Without a doubt - barefoot walking and the ocean (preferably at the same time)! What do you value most in a friendship/relationship? Keeping it real. We are all human. What are you most grateful for these days? Time Favourite Meal: Deep fried clams - yes I said that Current Favourite Band: Puscifer Current Favourite Book: The Endless Web Current favourite Place: Anywhere I’m at, you gotta be in the now Quote currently Inspiring you: “…life is matter in motion…" Interested in working with Anna?
