Picture
Niya loves sharing yoga with new yogis, those recovering, or recently recovered, from injury, and anyone interested in finding a more graceful, sustainable approach to their practice. Her sequences build on your current level of experience by providing variations with clear instructions and demonstrations. She is careful to tailor the structure, level, language and complexity of sequencing to accessibly and functionally share the practice so that you can benefit regardless of age, ability, or physicality.

Niya teaches in: Etobicoke and Toronto

Anna’s experiences include: Body Positive Yoga, Vinyasa, Restorative, Yin, Prenatal, Postnatal, Kids Yoga, Family Yoga, Meditation, Anxiety, and Depression

---

Following is a little interview with Niya!
• What got you into yoga?
My dad signed me up for my first class when I was 13. He said "Go learn something and then come and teach me!" The practice helped me manage my anxiety, and eventually build the confidence and skills to teach.

• Favourite thing about one of your yoga trainings
Learning to be gentle with myself as I approach challenges and new perspectives. It's something I occasionally need to be reminded of.

• Favourite thing about teaching private sessions

Finding customized solutions to help ensure ongoing movement is sustainable, grounding and balanced.

• Go to grounding practice
Recipe development! It's nerdy, but I love working with food and building on my years as a restaurateur to create inclusive, nourishing, delicious meals that are reflective of the environment and minimize food waste.

• What are you most grateful for these days? The incredible communities I am privileged to be part of, and the luxury of offering them support because I can.

• Current Favourite Meal A hybrid of ayurvedic kitchari that my mom used to make me, and a congee that I fell in love with while travelling with a good friend.

• Current Favourite Book Terese Marie Mailhot's Heart Berries

• Current favourite Place Curled up on my couch with my executive assistant (and cat) Mexa

• Quote currently Inspiring you "The endless cycle of idea and action, endless invention, endless experiment, brings knowledge of motion, but not of stillness..." - T.S. Eliot

Teacher Feature – Anna MacIntosh!

Get to know your potential My Personal Yoga Teacher a bit better–Anna MacIntosh!
Picture

Anna is a movement instructor and owner of AMalignment in Burlington, Ontario. Coming from an engineering background, Anna brings unique perspectives and experience to movement training. She is certified in Hatha and Restorative yoga (with a focus on alignment), ELDOA® Levels 1 and 2 osteo-articular stretching technique, and is completing the Restorative Exercise Specialist® program with Katy Bowman in the US (Nutritious Movement). Her style includes offering separate classes as well as creating a combined class or workshop that incorporates controlled movement for your whole body, while challenging your brain and coordination!

Never being a person who loved the gym, Anna was introduced to yoga about 13 years ago, beginning a casual practice in group classes. Despite feeling ok physically, she found she struggled at times not being "flexible" enough to execute many of the poses and the cues offered didn’t seem to be helping her get any better. Following years of studying and working in the materials engineering field, in 2016 she embarked on teacher training in a couple of areas to better understand alignment and biomechanics with the goal to create a more effective practice for her own body and to work on issues that had started to creep in with age. As her body began to feel better and more functional with movement training, her desire to learn more and share it with others through teaching movement became a reality.

In addition, Anna is a natural movement and barefoot health educator and enthusiast. When not teaching you will find her floor-sitting while studying anatomy or osteopathic theory, rock climbing, barefoot walking in nature, or scouting for the next fun trip with either surf or scuba on the menu.

Anna teaches in: Burlington, Oakville, and Mississauga.

Anna’s experiences include: Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Gentle, Chair Yoga, Accessible Yoga, Seniors, Limited Mobility, Biomechanics, Alignment, Strength Building, ELDOA, Barefoot Health and Mobility, Functional Movement, Increasing Range of Motion.

Following is a little interview with Anna!

What got you into yoga?
I thought I needed to gain flexibility and I didn’t like working out in a gym environment. It turns out that yoga just opened the door to learning so much more about what my body really needed from several different perspectives.

Favourite thing about one of your yoga trainings:
Yoga props - period. Anyone who has been in a class with me with tell you I love props.

Favourite thing about teaching private sessions:
Although I love the energy of classes, I really like the diversity between people and the focussed attention allowed for each unique body when teaching a private client. There is more time and opportunity to connect with a person and help them develop a practice that improves or balances their life in some way.

Go to grounding practice:
Without a doubt - barefoot walking and the ocean (preferably at the same time)!

What do you value most in a friendship/relationship?
Keeping it real. We are all human.

What are you most grateful for these days?
Time

Favourite Meal:
Deep fried clams - yes I said that

Current Favourite Band:
Puscifer

Current Favourite Book:
The Endless Web

Current favourite Place:
Anywhere I’m at, you gotta be in the now

Quote currently Inspiring you:
“…life is matter in motion…"

Get to know My Persona Yoga – Workplace Yoga!

Workplace yoga sessions are as varied and wide-ranging as the many kinds of businesses in the city!

Over the next few posts I’ll be sharing just some of the ways My Personal Yoga can help support your staff’s physical and mental health in the workplace. Start up or established, large or small, we’re here to help support your staff.

** Recent studies out of Norway (HUNT–Health Study of Nord-Trondelag. Longitudinal studies over 11 years) have shown that exercise of any intensity protects against future depression and that 1 hour a week of even gentle exercise (including yoga), yielded the same (no more, but no less) mental health benefits as anti-depressants! **

Can we just take a second and process that–one hour of yoga a week AS GOOD AS ANTI-DEPRESSANTS!!

If you’re committed to supporting your staff and their wellbeing, we’re here for you!

How We Began
In-Home private yoga sessions were where My Personal Yoga began, with founder Lisa in 2012. The business has steadily grown since then and we’re happy to continue offering quality, personalized, body positive private sessions in your own home!

Why yoga at home?

1). Are you uncomfortable going to a gym or yoga studio, for whatever reason? Problem solved, we come to you!
2). Does your schedule not align with your local studio or gyms offerings? We can offer many time options to meet your scheduling needs!
3). Are you not able to leave your children or parents alone at home, need to cook dinner or do laundry while we’re around, just can’t take that extra 30mins travel time to and from a studio–no problem at all!
Whether in your living room, condo’s gym, party room, basement, or home office, at-home yoga helps to meet your personal scheduling and comfort needs.

Why private yoga?

Do group classes just not meet your needs?

Are you bubbling with questions that you want answers to?
Is your body shape or mobility level not being addressed in class?
Have you injured yourself in yoga class and you want to know how to keep yourself safe going forward?
Are you coming back to yoga after a long break and want a refresher?
Do you want a deeper understanding of the philosophy of yoga than you’re getting from group classes?
Want to do yoga with your whole family and a studio just isn’t the place for that?
There are so, so many reasons to do private sessions, we can’t even name them all! Reach out today with your concerns or hopes and we’ll find the perfect teacher for you!
