Get to know your potential My Personal Yoga Teacher a bit better! Here’s Shar Khurisgara!
Shar started practicing yoga during her first pregnancy. As her body changed, she found herself unable to keep up with her typical routine of cardio based workouts (running and spin classes). Shar turned to yoga to continue staying active and exercising.
Late into her pregnancy, the yoga-based practise of pranayama led Shar to discover HypnoBirthing. Though too far along to complete the full 5 week program, she was so inspired by the text and techniques that she was able to transfer her knowledge of the method into a short and successful home birth after only 3 weeks of practise.
Shar completed her 200h yoga teacher training and HypnoBirthing practitioner certification while pregnant with her second child. Today, she practices yoga daily and enjoys sharing the wisdom of its teachings.
Outside of yoga, Shar is a wine lover and studying sommelier. She lives in Milton with her husband and two children.
Shar teaches in: Milton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, and Brampton.
Shar’s experiences include: Prenatal, Postnatal, Hypnobirthing, Kids, Families, Hatha, Vinyasa, Flow, and Kids Yoga.
Following is a little interview with Shar!
What got you into yoga?
Pregnancy! I discovered yoga while pregnant as a way to move and stretch my changing body. Once I got past the nausea and fatigue of the first trimester, I didn’t have the energy to resume running (my primary form of exercise) and found yoga instead. It was a gentle way to keep active throughout pregnancy, postpartum and beyond.
Favourite thing about teaching private sessions?
Being able to meet my clients where they’re at. A classroom setting can have beginners and advanced yogis all practising together, which can be challenging for the teacher or frustrating for the students. But in a private session, there is so much more flexibility. You can really customize the poses and sequences so your clients get the most out of the experience. It’s just a more personalized class.
What would be a perfect day for you?
Any day on a beach, swimming in the ocean is a perfect day.
What are you most grateful for these days?
Having the chance to step away from the 9-5 work week and stay home with my kids for the past 4 years. They are small for such a short amount of time and I’m grateful that I was able to maximize my time with them when they needed me the most.
Current Favourite Meal?
I’m really getting into fermented foods, and have been experimenting with sauerkraut. I’m also a wine enthusiast and my current favourite food pairing is a spicy Indian or Thai meal with a crisp German Riesling. But my favourite meal will always be a hamburger and a pint of beer
Quote currently inspiring you?
“Remember when you wanted what you currently have”
I don’t know who said it or where it came from, but I read this a few weeks ago and it really suck with me. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of wanting more (and of course, self-improvement is great and important), but it’s also so meaningful to look at how far you’ve come and to be grateful for all that you have right now, in this moment.
